Lex:lead is pleased to announce scholarship competition in developing countries. Up to 10 US$500 awards made in February 2017 to the top essays answering this year’s essay question: “How do refugee and migration law affect poverty and economic development? How can it be implemented to reduce poverty and to improve economic development?”

Eligibility:
Applicants must register by 31 October 2016 online at www.lex-lead.org. Applicants meeting the eligibility criteria will be assigned a registration number (an Identification Number) which they are to use with no other identifying information in essays submitted by 31 December 2016.

Essays:
Essays must be in English, typed and single-spaced for a total of not more than five (5) pages. All work submitted must be the applicant’s own, original work with clear attribution where other sources are consulted. Essays must be submitted using the Identification Number assigned at registration and contain no information that could lead to the independent identification of the applicant. Essays must be submitted using the email address provided at registration by the candidate to contact-at-lex-lead.org by 31 December 2016. Further details are given over page.

Award :

Wehrung International Student Award recognizes outstanding international undergraduate students from impoverished or war-torn areas, who have achieved academic excellence under difficult circumstances and who would be unable to pursue post-secondary education without financial assistance.

Eligibility
Nominations will be accepted from secondary schools, recognized international development agencies and their affiliates, registered local or international charitable and not-for-profit organizations.
A school or organization may nominate one student for UBC’s Donald Wehrung International Student Award for undergraduate study at UBC’s Vancouver or Okanagan campus.

To be eligible for consideration for the Donald Wehrung International Student Award, the nominee must be:

1.Get enough knowledge
It goes without saying that you should have appropriate background knowledge about the environment and other such basic knowledge about the places you’re applying to. The weather, the food, the culture, and the mood of the people all seem like such trivial things when your main focus is on your education and getting into your first choice college, but trust me, these things matter a lot.

2. Be Aware of Basic Skills

Basic skills like cooking always come in handy. As mentioned before, if you’re a big critic when it comes to food, then you’ll probably crave a native dish every once in a while. If not, some places just can’t quite catch the flavor of your home country.

3. Be More Responsible
If you’re moving out, you’ll be living alone and probably with roommates. Your parents are not going to be there to constantly nag you all the time to clean up after yourselves and no stranger will tolerate your sloppy habits if they’re staying with you.



4. Change your Attitude
If you hope to get along with people from all over the world with different cultures and backgrounds, you need to be resilient in your responsibilities and have an easy-going personality. If you keep on criticizing other people all the time, no one is going to like you or want to sit with you. Don’t poke your nose where it doesn’t belong because no one likes someone who tries to become over-involved in someone else’s personal matters. To help yourself adjust, devise strategies and control your impulses or come up with things to keep your mind busy in your free time other than indulging in meaningless gossip.

5. Earnings and Savings
Tuition fees are expensive, especially for foreign students, but that’s not the only thing they have to worry about. They have to look at the boarding, the food expenses, clothing, and other such basic necessities which can come to cost a lot.
Be Absolutely Fair

Cheating won’t get you anywhere in the future. You’ll never be reliant on your own skills and thus continue to be fraudulent in your entire career span. That is not to mention that you’ll not be gaining any such knowledge whatsoever and can face serious consequences.

7. Overcoming Sudden Changes in Policies
The entire world was shaken by the issue of Brexit. It’s a political decision surely to affect the operation of the country in itself, and it has also raised a serious issue of racism. Tips to Write a Winning Scholarship Essay

1. Know your audience

Although we're looking at scholarship essays as a whole, it's important to realize that every scholarship provider is looking for a specific student who meets unique criteria. When you get your application, look closely at the questions, the organization giving the scholarship, and any past recipients you can find.


2. Plan far in advance

Get an early start on each application is very important. Begin your research and planning a week or so before you think you should, and you'll be able to take enough time to turn out something great. This will also give you time to craft an outline, which can help your essay stay concise and on target. Think of two or three main points you want to make in response to the essay question, add some supporting information under each of them, and consider a sentence or two of introduction and conclusion.


3. Make it personal and passionate

When you do start writing, don't forget that the main purpose of your essay is to convince the scholarship provider that you're the student they've been looking for. Answer the questions you've set out in your outline, but make sure every point you make is illustrated with a specific detail that shows you care about the subject.

Germany Scholarship: DAAD Scholarships for Developing Countries’ Students, 2017-2018

Students are invited for DAAD scholarships from developing countries’ students. The scholarships are available for pursuing a postgraduate degree at German institutions of Higher education. The last academic degree (usually a Bachelor’s degree) should have been completed no longer than six years previously.
Course Level: for a postgraduate degree at a state or state-recognized German university, and in exceptional cases to take a doctoral degree, and to obtain a university qualification (Master’s/PhD) in Germany.

Study Subject(s): for pursuing development-related postgraduate courses.

Scholarship Award: Scholarship includes:

-Travel allowance, unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding

-Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover
- monthly payments of 750 euros for graduates or 1,000 euros for doctoral candidates
depending on academic level.

Eligibility: Scholarship criteria is:
-Applications have at least two years’ professional experience
-Applications fulfil the necessary academic requirements and can be expected to successfully complete a study programmer in Germany (above-average result for first academic exam – top performance third, language skills)
-Candidates can prove their motivation is development-related and be expected to take on social responsibility and initiate and support processes of change in their personal and professional environment after their training/scholarship
-Candidates have a Bachelor degree (usually a four-year course) in an appropriate subject
-Graduates with at least two years’ professional experience

Common scholarship questions and tips how to answer it

The beloved five questions are most of questions you might see while trying to apply for a scholarship. 

Question 1: Introduce yourself.
Usually, interviewers know nothing, or very little about you. They just see your scholarship application. When introducing yourself in the interview, you should mention two things: 1. How much your dream to study at this college is coming true. 2. Gently describe your not so good financial situation, giving facts. Facts are the numbers and the statements. Do not play too much with emotions at this point.

Question 2: Why have you decided for this school? Why have you chosen the subject of your study?
The key is to answer this question with enthusiasm in your voice, speaking about future plans, and what you want to do once you finish your school. You should be future oriented in your answers. Interviewers will see that you really are serious about your career and judge that you probably deserve to be supported.

Questions 3. How are you planning to use your scholarship?
This is a very common question. And you can be well prepared for it. Bring with you a brake down of your monthly costs. How much do you pay for living, transport, food. How much do you prefer to (or need to) invest in books and further education. Simply break it down. You can even leave them the paper. Once they see you really need a scholarship, they will give it to you.

Question 4. What makes you special to receive this scholarship?
If you are in different condition, and are not applying for a form of social scholarship, but for a form of reward scholarship, it is good to brake down to paper again why you deserve to receive the scholarship. In general, answering scholarship interview questions, we advice you to use a paper a lot. School officers just love it. So write down all the great results or what ever is the reason you are applying for a scholarship.

Question 5: Do you plan to do anything for our college?
At the end of the day, everyone watches his own back. School prefers to support someone who can bring something back. If you are a perfect athlete, the answer is easy for you. You just mention where you plan to represent the school and use its name on your jersey.
